Autotask on a Mac?

August 13, 2008 – 1:31 pm

I can assure you that multi-browser compatibility has been the hottest topic on the Autotask User CommunITy feature request forum.  Leave it to the brainyacks at Calyptix Security to find a possible solution using a third party software that allows you to run IE on a Mac or Linux.  While some users have reported that the solution (Crossover) is not perfect, it has may have the potential to alleviate Mac user’s frustrations until Autotask can finish re-coding for cross-browser compatibility.   Read more about this here.

  2. Mark,
Yes, they are a smart bunch there. I was speaking to a MAC MSP at the Ingram Seismic Partner Conference in Chicago today who recommended a product from http://www.northstaraccess.net/ . They are a SaaS solution that allows access to hosted MS Windows applications from a MAC platform. I haven’t seen or used it, but a brief look at the website makes me think this might be a solution for more than just getting to Autotask from a MAC.

  3. Mark, thanks for blogging about it! Being a pretty new Autotask user, I wasn’t aware that it was such a hot topic in their forums. :)

Hopefully it’ll help someone out there — I know Seth was eyeing my MacBook at SMB Summit in Dallas this year. :)

Steve, Northstar looks interesting.. I’ll have to check them out too!

  4. Mark,
There is a program for Mac called Fusion. It is made by VMWare and it is an awesome product. I installed it on my Mac and have had not had any problems. It basically allows you to create a partion of any size and runs Windows XP or even the beloved Vista as a program instead of having to boot up your mac and select which operating system you want to use. It runs smoothly and you can choose how much ram it will be allowed to use how big the partition you want use and many other features. This is just an alternative to the above solutions. It works awesome with Autotask and any other xp programs that are not compatible with Mac.
