Lost your Form Fill with Windows Live Essentials Toolbar?

September 3, 2009 – 9:23 am

So did I.  I totally depend on the form fill feature that has been in the Windows Live Toolbar for the past 2 years and was rather despondent when, after upgrading my Windows Messenger yesterday, it installed a new toolbar and the form fill feature was no longer there.

After quite a bit of searching the forums and blogs I discover this work-around that actually works.  Thanks to Jonathan kay, MS MVP for Windows Live Messenger for this tip:

Yes, they cut Formfill from showing in the latest Live Toolbar version, I’m not sure why.

You can get it back by closing all Internet Explorer windows, pressing the Windows and R keys together on the keyboard to open the Run box, and then paste the following: msiexec /x {995F1E2E-F542-4310-8E1D-9926F5A279B3}
then click OK. Select Yes to uninstall the product.This will uninstall the current Live Toolbar.  (I used the Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled Windows Live Essentials – Live Toolbar only option instead).

Then you can go ahead and install the old version of the Live toolbar by downloading and running this MSI:

During the installer you can select the Standard option if you like. Once this is done installing, the Live Toolbar containing the Form Field feature should be back. You may have to manually go and add the rest of the old buttons however.

Not only did this little tip restore my Form Fill but all my passwords, Credit Card info and forms data was still there!

Thanks Jonathan!

  2. I tried to follow the steps you gave, but could not open in the Run box what you said to paste in it. Therefore I could go no further. I must have form fill or I’ll go crazy, as it has all my Ids and passwords, etc. What can I do now?
