No Backup of the Backups for WHS

I mentioned last week that Microsoft has cut the client backup from the initial release of Small Business Server 2008 and now word in the forums is that the solution designed to backup the client backups on a Windows Home Server (SBS’s Little Brother) has been cut from the planed Power Pack 1 release.

WeGotServed.co.uk said, “Whilst the news is disappointing (I’ve been aware of this for some time, but as you know, I’m under a Microsoft NDA), if there’s a risk of backup databases being corrupted, the right decision is to pull the feature now before release.”

My personal speculation (and it is exactly that, as I have no personal knowledge of such plans from my work with Microsoft - sorry, have to protect my NDAs) is that Microsoft has plans to leverage some integration with SkyDrive and that both of these backups would fit well into that solution.  The delays are probably based on working the kinks out of what could prove to be the ultimate backup solution: Client to server to SkyDrive backup all in one.  If they can get that right it will be worth the wait.
