The Ultimate WPC Networking Event
July 11, 2008 – 8:07 amWhile I exchanged many business cards with other partners, vendors and Softies this week, the best networking event I attended was actually one
that was not focused on generating new business, exchanging business cards or loaded with elevator sales pitches, it was one focused on getting better networked with God and my fellow brothers in Christ. The meeting was the first ever Partners in Christ Prayer Breakfast. The best 60 minutes of the entire conference! It wasn’t that I can’t get good spiritual lessons and time with God a home in Charlotte, it was that I was able to identify many other brothers in Christ. The ones that you see at the same parties, have the same about of fun as most, but still keeping things under control and are doing their best to keep things in moderation. Not that they are better (morally or otherwise) than anyone else, just that they are people whom when I find myself facing struggles or challenges in my faith while traveling I can I can turn to for support. It is nice to know thier names and faces. If you are someone that is working daily on maintaining or building your relationship with God and travel a lot, then you know how important that can be.
While you may have different beliefs than mind I’m sure that a quick gleaming of the practicals from my notes below. Enjoy!
Mens prayer breakfast notes.
Phil. 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things
Each moment IS A new beginning.
The 4:8 principle.
We will always have negative thoughts. We will also experience positive events. Thoughts dwelled on become emotions that can control us. Don’t ignore problems but filter on what we will focus on. Thoughts are not evidence of where we are at in our lives but where we are at inside.
Being negative, even for a moment, is contrary to faith in good. This reminds me of Rom 8:28 - And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Phil 4:8 teaches us: There will always be negative and positive but WE choose what to focus un. Our emotions are a quality control device that allows us to feel what we are thinking about to determine if the thoughts are Godly.
Write a personal mission statement that includes the things that God wnts me to become. Focus on the thoughts that support that mission.
Prov 4:23 guard my heart
Some pratical positive self questions to find thoughts to focus upon.
What is great about X?
What is I grateful for and haw can I express my appreciation?
What are my greatest strengths in X and how can I use them?
What am I passionate about and looking forward to in the next 90 days?
How is God using me?

The Partners in Christ event was a great one. Over 50 partners meeting to pray and learn about the real reason we get up in the morning. This was the first annual, and we will be doing it again next year. Thanks for standing tall for your faith and making reference to the event. I too find that knowing who I can connect with to stay grounded while traveling is so very important to keeping a strong faith. Thanks again for your comments and willingness to share the things you learned.

Great post!
Phil 4:8 is one of my favorite verses, along with Jam 1:19 (Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry) and Heb 6:10 (God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them).
Back of the business card is a good place to have a piece of scripture. Heb 6:10 is currently on the back of mine.

Hey Mark,
This is cool. Where was the announcement for it at the conference or was it a viral invite?

Now I am kicking myself for not going, I usually attend these events, however, it was a tough decision to work out my body or my spirit. I elected for body that Wednesday AM.
However, I will be at Arlin’s farm in August for the retreat, I highly recommend this to anyone.
