Public Confession - My 24 Hour Fling

August 12, 2008 – 2:14 pm

So I went and did it. I gave in.  They say most transgressions are a series of bad decisions and not just one single decision.  They are right.  I had been plotting this for over a month.  Pressure from my friends, my wife, my co-workers… I was all I could take!!!!  I found myself with some idle time between appointments and conveniently close to a major shopping mall so I made the call and she answered…

“Thank you for calling the Apple Store.  How may I help you?”  She had me at Apple!  She then confirmed that they were open and had plenty of the coveted devices in stock so I changed lanes and made a small yet irreversible decision.  I walked in, got in line and bought not one, but TWO iPhones.  While I felt somewhat relieved that I had finally satisfied my desire to own one, I did fell somewhat “dirty”.   I called my wife Nanci and had her come pick her iPhone up from my office all setup, number ported and email synced.  Together we trespassed into the taboo world of alternative mobile devices.

OK, so I’ll never make it as a Harlequin novelist but there is a happy ending to this romance gone astray.  After only 24 hours I found myself back in the Apple store returning my device and once again enjoying the company of my slightly dinged, overweight, yet faithful Samsung I760.  My reason for returning to the light?  On thing, typing speed.  While I LOVED the ease and power of the apps on the iPhone, I had to face the fact that my thumbs are just too big?  All that power and sleek Web 2.0 access at my fingers and I couldn’t type my own name correctly!

While I go back to my slide-out keyboard and every 4 hour reboots of Windows Mobile 6, my wife had decided to continue on in the iLife without me.  Today I helped her link a credit card to her iTunes account so she could download music, videos and apps.  She likes country, I like rock.  She likes hotels, I like camping.  She like iPhone, I like my Windows device.  Thank God we have the Windows Home Server, Wii, two workstations and Tivo to keep us together.  ;-)

The one bloggable quote from my experience in the Apple Store was this one, “Would you like me to print your receipt or just email it to you?”  I almost bought a MacBook after hearing that question!

  2. Talk about a letdown…

I was expecting to see an Apple logo photochopped onto the upturned cheek of a pr0n star.

    I call shenanigans!

  3. I know a blogger that probably has that exact image already created. ;-)

  4. Ok, so let’s review some marketing questions:

Vlad posts a picture of the Microsoft Partner Program in action, with the SBSC in its prominent role. Mark posts a few paragraph and stock photo of iPhone you’ve seen a thousand times.

What do you think people will remember and (are apparently willing to) talk about?

    Vlad’s use of SBSC logo?
Mark’s use of Apple stock image?

Momma didn’t raise no fool. Obscene, yes. Fool, no.

  5. I thought I felt a great disturbance in the force. It seems to have settled down now.
