Not Just a Great Cup of Coffee

Peet's

While this is not exactly a blog for talking about coffee, I can’t ignore the passing of a legend and hero of mine.   Alfred H. Peet was an example of a business man who built his business around his dreams and ultimately delivered the world one of the best cups of coffee it will ever know (If you happen to be one of my customers then you already knew this).   He was also the inspiration for Starbucks.  For the past 9 years I’ve enjoyed Peets coffee and teas every day.  While Alfred will be missed, his legacy will live on through one of our finest pleasures.

Alfred Peet

Alfred Peet died peacefully in his home in Ashland, Oregon on August 29, 2007 at the age of 87.

A framed photo of Mr. Peet and the memorial will be placed in the four stores that he opened before retiring?Vine Street, Menlo Park, Piedmont and Domingo?along with Solano where many of his customers still live. Through this memorial and blog, we wish to invite our customers to share their memories and pay tribute to Mr. Peet. We have also placed a leather scrapbook in the Vine Street store in his honor, should customers want to drop by and write a note or share a photo.
